Deadlines:
  • The priority deadline for all terms (fall, spring, or academic year) is February 15. Students who complete applications by this deadline will be handled at the NSE Placements conference in early March and have the best chance of getting their first- or second-choice placement.
  • Post-conference placements are possible, and Gustavus will continue accepting applications as late as:
    • May 1 for fall semester or academic-year placements
    • September 15 for spring semester placements.

Gustavus Notes:
  • Note that Gustavus requires junior class standing by the start of your NSE exchange semester. First-year students and sophomores are not eligible to participate.
  • Gustavus participates in HOME CAMPUS tuition payment ("Plan B") only. Certain NSE members participate as HOST CAMPUS ("Plan A") only, so those institutions are not open to Gustavus participants. Those institutions have been excluded from the list above but will appear in the NSE website.
Exchange Model:
Note that this is an exchange program. In the exchange model, participating Gustavus students enroll directly in courses offered by a partner college or university located abroad or elsewhere in the US. In these programs, there is less direct support for participating students when compared to programs run by Gustavus or by partner organizations with US staff members and offices. The model requires some extra effort on the student's part, to navigate an unfamiliar institution and its systems, but the rewards are demonstrably greater (research shows this), as students who complete such programs experience the most immersive form of study away.
