Credits and Courses. Please note that Japanese universities offer many courses with very small levels of credit attached (often equivalent to just 0.25 or 0.50 Gustavus units). Courses that earn less than 0.75 Gustavus units may NOT be applied to satisfy major, minor, or general graduation requirements at Gustavus. For this reason, students who enroll directly in Japanese universities should anticipate taking a number of elective courses during that semester.

Japanese Studies majors, in some cases, may earn credit toward the major with these smaller-credit courses. Consult your department chair to understand if your intended courses would count for Japanese Studies major credit.
